Michelangelo: La Dotta Mano, World's Most Expensive New Book

Costing 100,000 euros ("$155,000 when the first tome was finished last spring" but "about $130,000 at the current exchange rate"), La Dotta Mano is billed as the most beautiful and most expensive new book in the world.

It showcases Michelangelo's works of art and even the front cover is a scale reproduction in marble of Michelangelo's Madonna della Scala, a bas-relief of the Virgin and Child he sculptured when he was still in his teens (as seen at the left).

Published by FMR, each book took six months to craft, using Italian artisan skills dating to the Renaissance.

La Dotta Manno means "The Learned Hand" or "The Wise Hand."
